Youku Cookie Policy
Effective date:Nov. 16th, 2023
We use cookies, log files, pixel tags, web beacons, scripts, eTags and similar files or technologies to collect information about your device and your use of our application(s), product(s) and/or services under Youku’s international businesses, including our web-based Youku application, whether or not as a registered user and whether or not as a VIP subscription user (“Youku Services”, or our “Services”). We do not use cookies or similar technology for our mobile and TV-based Youku applications. The use of cookies and similar technologies helps us distinguish you from the other users of our Services, improve our Services and helps us improve your user experience when using our Services. You can find out more about our use of cookies and similar technologies and how you can manage them in this Youku Cookie Policy (this “Cookie Policy”).
Our Services is provided by Jet Brilliant Limited, a company incorporated under the laws of Hong Kong (referred to as “Youku”, “we” or “us”, or other similar terms, including its subsidiaries and affiliates). For the purposes of applicable data protection law, we are a data controller in respect of your personal data.
If you do not accept the use of these cookies and similar technologies, please disable them according to the instructions in this Cookie Policy. Please do not continue using our Services until you have managed your preferences accordingly.
For further details on our general privacy practices and how we collect and use your personal information, please refer to our Privacy Policy.
1. What are cookies and similar technologies?
Cookies are text files containing small amounts of information which are downloaded to your browser or device when you visit a certain web address. Cookies are then sent back to the originating web address on each subsequent visit, or to another web address that recognises that cookie.
Cookies can serve several purposes, for instance allowing you to navigate between pages more efficiently, remembering your log-in and preferences, and generally improving your user experience. Cookies may tell us, for example, whether you have accessed or used our Services before. Cookies can help us safeguard the security of our data and services and detect potential fraud or illegal acts against our products and/or services generally.
For instance, cookies can store ticket information, which can be used by the server to verify if the log-in is made by yourself independently. The encrypted information in the ticket can also be used to prevent a variety of types of attacks, cross-site information theft, and access with disguised identity.
In addition to cookies, we may also use other similar technologies such as local files, web beacons and pixel tags on our website. For example, local storage of HTML5 can cache frequently-used data related to you so that such data can be rendered to you quickly when you switch between different web pages of the Youku Services. Web beacons are usually transparent images embedded in websites or emails. With the help of the pixel tags in emails, we can know whether the email we send is effectively served to the user.
Cookies can remain on your browser or device for different periods of time. Some cookies are “session cookies”, meaning that they exist only while your browser or application is open. These are deleted automatically once you close your browser or application. Other cookies are “permanent cookies”, meaning that they survive after your browser or application is closed. They can be used by us to recognise your device when you revisit our Services.
The specific types of cookies and similar technologies that we use are set out in further detail below.
2. How do we use cookies and similar technologies?
We use cookies and similar technologies to:

4. How can you manage your cookies settings?
You may update your preferences by changing the settings in your browser. Most browsers allow you to update your privacy settings. These settings are typically found in the “options” or “preferences” menu of your browser, and allow you to manage your cookies settings so that you may:
●
view a list of cookies and other locally stored data and manage and/or delete your preferences on an individual basis;
●
block third party cookies or similar technology;
●
block cookies or similar technology from particular sites;
●
block all cookies or similar technologies from being applied; or
●
delete all cookies or similar technologies when you close your browser.
For more information on how to manage commonly-used browsers, please see below. You may use the “Help” option in your browser to refer to more details.
Deleting cookies or similar technologies means that any preference settings you have made on a website will be lost. Please note that if you have set your preferences to opt out of cookies, this setting will be lost too, as that information is stored in a cookie. Blocking all cookies or similar technology means certain functionalities of our Services will not be provided, for instance if you reject essential cookies such as HTML5 data. We do not recommend you turning all cookies or similar technologies off when using our Service as this may hinder your user experience.
If you have disabled one or more cookies, we may still use information collected from cookies prior to your preference being applied. We will, however, stop using the disabled cookie to collect any further information.
How can you opt out of third party cookie use?
If you wish to update your settings at any time (for example, if you accept all cookies, but later decide that you do not want a certain type of cookie), you will need to use your browser settings to remove any third party cookies or similar technologies dropped on your previous visit. To opt out of Google Analytics’ use of cookies, a Chrome browser add-on is available.
5. Do Not Track
The “Do Not Track” (“DNT”) privacy preference is an option that may be made in your web browser allowing you to opt out of tracking by websites and online services. At this time, global standard DNT technology is not yet finalized and not all browsers support DNT. We therefore do not recognize DNT signals and do not respond to them. We currently do not recognize opt-out preference signals, such as the Global Privacy Control (available here), as a request to opt-out of the sale or sharing of your personal information.
6. Changes to this Cookie Policy
We will update this Cookie Policy to reflect changes in our practices and services. When we post changes to this Cookie Policy, we will revise the ”Effective Date” at the top of this Cookie Policy. If we make any material changes in the way we collect, use, and/or share information held in cookies, we will notify you by pop-up notice. We recommend that you check this page from time to time to inform yourself of any changes in this Cookie Policy or any of our other policies.
